Year R

Welcome to Chestnut Class.

In Chestnut Class, your class teacher is Mrs Furzland.

Mrs Furzland is the teacher in Chestnut Class and the teaching assistant is Mrs Ridley.

On a Tuesday, either in the morning or the afternoon, Mrs da Silva teaches the class.

We do physical development activities throughout the day, however on Fridays after Autumn half term we also go into the hall to use the apparatus, dance, play movement games or parachute games.

With reading at home, please read regularly with your child. try and read as much as you can. If possible, 5-10 minutes each evening, with a focus on initially telling the story using the pictures in the wordless books, then sounding out and blending the simple words in the blending books and once the children are started on their levelled phonic books reading these using the segmenting and blending method mentioned and learning the red words.

The children have lots of continuous provision time, which means that they get to select their own learning in our Early Years setting. There are opportunities for children to explore, learn and investigate a wide range of activities set up daily by the adults to help the children to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills across the curriculum. If the children have a specific interest, we will tailor activities to engage them with their learnning by drawing on these interests.

There are specific teaching inputs throughout the day such as Maths, phonics, handwriting and other curriculum areas (such as Understanding the World and Expressing Arts and Design). Everything learnt by the children is designed to foster their love of learning.

Some of the themes we explore during our time in Reception include: dinosaurs, pirates, the Arctic, mythical creatures, gardening... these are just a few.... as well as the seasons as they occur and special celebrations (such as Lunar New Year and Fireworks).

We look forward to spending time together and having lots of fun growing and learning!
