Autumn 1 2026

Welcome back to school in Year 5, Beech Class. We are so looking forward to working together with you this year - we have lots of exciting things planned. This term we are going to be learning about Earth and Space and time zones. We are going to be finding out how the solar system is made up, why day and night occur and how the world is made up with different time zones and what this means.

We are also going to be looking at place value and calculations in maths. We will start our English lessons by looking at the book entitled, Hidden Figures which focuses on the involvement of women in space research. We will be sketching some astronaut portraits using different shading techniques and studying proportion and we will be looking at belonging within the Islamic faith. We have a busy term ahead.

Any board games at home that require children to add and subtract as they go to use the addition and subtraction formal method – monopoly or addition four in a row game – available online.

Reminders

• P.E. Will be on a Tuesday and a Friday, so please wear your P.E. uniform to school on these days.
• Please do not send children to school with large bags. We do not have the space to store them. Packed lunches are stored on trolleys when the children enter school, so a book bag is more than sufficient.
• Please ensure no items are brought from home to school unless they are essential to learning or transitional / support devices previously agreed with school.
