Year 3

Welcome to Year 3                        Silver Birch Class

Teacher: Miss Preston
Support Staff: Mrs Kritikou

Autumn 1 2026

Welcome back to school, and a very warm welcome to Year 3 and the Juniors! We have an exciting and busy year ahead, and we are so looking forward to learning, exploring and growing together in Silver Birch Class.

This term, we will be exploring a wonderful range of books in English. We will begin with Hom, writing a recount of the adventures the characters share. As the term progresses, we will discover a new rich text every 2–3 weeks, with each book inspiring a different writing outcome.

In Maths, we will develop our understanding of place value and calculation, while beginning to build our confidence and fluency with the 3-, 4- and 8-times tables.

Our history topic is always a favourite in Year 3 as we travel back in time to discover Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will explore how people lived, worked and changed throughout this fascinating period. Next half term, we will bring our learning to life during our exciting visit to Butser Ancient Farm, where we will have the opportunity to experience what life may have been like thousands of years ago. We will also take inspiration from the Stone Age in Art, creating our very own modern interpretations of cave paintings.

But that's not all! In Computing, we will investigate what is inside a computer; in French, we will begin developing our language skills; and in PSHE, we will reflect on ourselves, our friendships and our relationships with others.

This is just a small taste of all the exciting learning we have planned for the Autumn Term. We can't wait to see what we can discover together!
