Autumn 2 2026

Welcome back to school, we hope you had a very relaxing half term. We can’t believe how quickly the start of the year has gone. We are continuing to have an exciting and busy time in Year 3.

This term, we will be exploring a wonderful range of books in English. We will continue with Stone Age Beasts, writing an information page. As the half term progresses, we will discover a new rich text every 2–3 weeks, with each book inspiring a different writing outcome.

In Maths, we will develop our understanding of place value and calculation, while beginning to build our confidence and fluency with the 3-, 4- and 8-times tables.

We will continue our Stone Age topic up until Christmas. Excitingly, we have our trip to Butser Farm soon, which will transport us back to the Stone Age where we will participate in authentic actvitiies which would have been carried out back then as part of their daily living. We have enjoyed this topic so far and are looking forward to continuing to learn more.

But that's not all! In Computing, we will learn about coding; in French, we will be learning vegetables; and in PSHE, we will consider how we can value our differences.

We are now switching Art for D.T, where we will be practising our cutting skills using wood and a hacksaw. We will be learning how to safely cut the wood to create a picture frame.

This is just a small taste of all the exciting learning we have planned for the Autumn Term. We can't wait to see what we can discover together!

Reminders

On a Tuesday, Year 3 will have P.E lessons delivered by Mr Bowman and Music being delivered by Mrs Murtha.

• P.E. Will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday, so please wear your P.E. uniform to school on these days.
• Please do not send children to school with large bags. We do not have the space to store them. Packed lunches are stored on trolleys when the children enter school, so a book bag is more than sufficient.
• Please ensure no items are brought from home to school unless they are essential to learning or transitional / support devices previously agreed with school.
