Phonics
Newlands aims to provide the best education possible for all of our pupils. We have based our approach to the teaching of phonics on action research, school visits and a thorough review of educational research. For more details, read our phonics guide. We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised as our chosen systematic synthetic phonics programme. This programme provides a consistent and rigorous approach to the teaching of early reading and phonics, ensuring that children build secure foundations in decoding, fluency, comprehension and a lifelong love of reading. Through daily phonics lessons and regular assessment, children are supported to make excellent progress in reading. All staff are trained in the delivery of Little Wandle and follow the programme with fidelity to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning. Find out more about Little Wandle here:
