Music

At Newlands, music is taught in every class every week for a minimum of 60 minutes, and these lessons are delivered by class teachers. We follow the scheme of work from Kapow (http://www.kapowprimary.com) which supports non-specialist teachers to deliver high-quality music lessons. Class teachers also have access to Sing Up to supplement their music teaching and learning. All children also participate in weekly 15-minute singing assemblies where the songs have been carefully chosen to fit the half-term theme.

At Newlands Primary School, we offer one to one or small group private tuition guitar lessons. These lessons are available for all KS2 pupils.

Additionally, we have a thriving choir that meets after school each week as an after-school club. The choir is for Year 2 and up and is delivered by one of our class teachers. The choir performs at a variety of school and community events, including Newlands Christmas Fair, Newlands Summer Fair and Yateley Christmas market. The choir is £10.00 a term; this covers the cost for the visit to the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena in Spring.

Children can participate in these extracurricular music activities at any point throughout the year. Further information can be found via the school office.

Children are taught about other curriculum areas through song, e.g. learning to count in multiples, times tables facts, names of the oceans etc.
