Year 2

Welcome to Oak Class.

In Oak Class, the class teacher is Mrs Wilson.

The teaching assistant is Miss Griffiths.

On a Thursday afternoon, Mrs Butcher will teach you for Computing and Music.

Reminders:

· On Tuesdays and Fridays we have PE, so please come to school in your PE Kit.

· With reading at home, please read regularly with your child. Try and read as much as you can. If possible, 5-10 minutes each evening, with a focus on asking questions about the book, the story and the characters. Reading is the key to unlocking the rest of the curriculum and a priority for all of our children.

· In Key Stage 1, the children are taken to the playground door of their classroom. There is always a member of staff there to greet you. If you have any quick messages or questions, please do ask, however if you have something that will take a bit longer, we can arrange a suitable time or email the school office. Children will be dismissed at the end of the day from the classroom door. This another opportunity to speak to the class teacher.

Here are just some of the exciting things that we will be learning during your time in Year 2:

· Looking at the seven continents, the countries of the British Isles and comparing human and physical features of the landscape

· We will be looking at animal habitats, different materials

· Learning about famous people in History

· Creating landscapes through texture and line drawings, learning about Vincent van Gogh

· Learning about the Great Fire of London

· Visiting the Great Fire of London Monument and getting to see where it all started!

· Working on our ball control skills and creating gymnastic sequences in PE

· Talking a lot about our feelings, what makes us a good friend and what we can do as an act of kindness, learning how we can be more independent and resilient

· Enjoying a lot of new books, reading in new and exciting ways

We have so much fun in Year 2 and this is only a few things we do throughout the year.

I am really looking forward to a brilliant year in Oak Class!
