Year 1

Welcome to Willow Class.

In Willow class the teacher is Mrs Ware and the teaching assistant is Mr Donegan.

Currently, our PE days are Monday (indoor PE) and Tuesday  (outdoor PE).

Some exciting things to look forward to in Year 1 :

During the Autumn Term, we'll step back in time with a trip to Reading Museum, where children will explore toys from the past and experience life in a Victorian classroom. We will then be charting the adventures of the first Arctic explorers, learning about their bravery and determination as they ventured into the icy unknown. Along the way, we'll discover the world's oceans, explore the hemispheres, and investigate how seasons change across the globe.

As part of our English, we'll be making bird feeders to inspire our instructional writing; uncover the secret of rain; and solve an unusual problem: how to rescue a woolly mammoth from a tree!

In Maths, we will be becoming fluent in our counting, adding and subtracting. We will learn how to tell the time to half past and o'clock and count money in 2's, 5's and 10's.

We will also get creative by designing robots with moving parts, paint self-portraits and sculpt beautiful clay birds!

In the Summer term, we have an exciting trip to The Lookout Discovery Centre, where children will dive into the world of animals. Back in the classroom, we'll be scientists ourselves - testing waterproof and non-waterproof materials by designing and making our very own umbrellas. We will also investigate the perfect condition for plant growth through hands on planting and experimenting.

We are really looking forward to all the fun and exciting learning that we will be doing together!
