Admissions
We warmly invite parents to visit our school along with their children. Please contact the school office to arrange an appointment. There is also a wealth of information on our website, which serves as a digital prospectus, but should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us. If you decide to send your child to Newlands Primary, please download our Admissions Policy for 2025/2026.
The Hampshire County Council website will give you guidance on how to choose the right school for your child https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/admissions. All main round admissions are managed by the Hampshire County Council Admissions Team. For any general enquiries, please telephone 0300 555 1377. All applications for any year group can be made via their website (see above). Once an application is completed, we will write to you with the outcome. If we are unable to offer a place, your child’s name will be added to our waiting list.
Applying for a Reception Place (Year R) for September 2026?
If your child was born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, they can start school in September 2026. Applications open on 1st November 2025 and parents can apply online at http://www.hants.gov.uk/admissions. The deadline for applications is 15th January 2026.
You will be notified of the allocated place for Year R children on 16th April 2026.
The Published Admission Number (PAN) enables 30 children to be admitted to the Reception Class. This is the maximum number of children who can be accepted for Year R except in very special circumstances. It is therefore important that parents and carers of prospective pupils submit their applications by the published deadline. Late applications can only be considered if there are still places available.
Children with parents or carers living in the catchment area will normally be given priority over those outside the catchment area but only if their application is submitted before the published deadline.
The following link will provide information to parents about starting school, compulsory school age and starting school options including how to delay or defer entry to reception.
Year 3
If your child is currently at an Infant School and you would like them to transfer to Newlands rather than their linked Junior School then you are advised first to contact the Headteacher about the likely availability of places. Follow the following link to find out how to apply for a place in Year 3.
