Governors

Robert Challis – Authority Governor & Chair of Governors

I am Robert Challis and am an Authority Governor for the school and have been in the post since February 2007. The reason for becoming a governor was so that I could get involved with the school and to give something back to the community.

I am married and have a daughter and I am a surveyor for a national property maintenance contractor.

My interests are spending time with my family, walking, playing golf & scuba diving.

I was appointed as Chair of Governors in September 2010.

Mhairi Hutchison, Parent Governor

My name is Mhairi Hutchison, I live in Yateley and have done so for fourteen years with
my partner Geoff and my son Cameron.  Geoff is a police office with
Hampshire constabulary.

I work as a bookkeeper for a water hygiene company in Yateley and am currently in my
third year of studying for an accountancy qualification; My experience in the finance
sector spans 20 years as I also previously worked for a large retail company as a Finance
Manager which has given me all round experience in people management, as well as
investigate it gave me the skill of communication, verbal and written with a multitude of
different communities, cultures and employee levels.

I have masses of motivation and enjoy a challenge; I feel that I can bring to the role an
enthusiasm that can be contagious.

At present within the school curriculum I am working with the school travel team looking
in specific to my role as the walking bus co-coordinator, encouraging children to walk
and adults to leave their cars at home, I also listen to the children read and
when possible accompany them on school trips

Andy Risius (Vice-chair)

I have Ph.D. in chemistry, but spent my working life managing computer software and hardware for a medicines company.  I met my wife, Fran, through work, and we moved to Yateley in 1980. Our children (Eleanor and Deborah) went to Newlands and Yateley School and on to university, and are now at work themselves.
We are grateful to Newlands for the self confidence our children gained in the open friendly atmosphere of the school. When I retired a few years ago, I volunteered to help at Newlands. I said that Maths was probably my best subject so I was asked to run the Maths Badge challenge for our older children.

I think children are important, and I like helping them. I try to encourage and motivate them, so that they find maths interesting and positive.  I also help with the reception class one morning a week.
I am a community governor and vice chair of governors.

Kulwant Lit – Community Governor

I am married with three grown up children and we have lived in Yateley since 1995. I have worked in the Aviation/Aerospace sector for over 25 years. I take keen interest in local issues and am currently serving on both Yateley Town Council and Hart District Council.

I am a mechanical engineering science graduate from University of Manchester and possess an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Caroline Owen

I am Caroline Owen, a parent governor since October 2010. I am married and have two boys, Niall who is 5 years old and attends Newlands School, Liam 12 years old who attends Yateley Comprehensive.

I have been a police officer for over 20 years, initially in the Metropolitan Police Service until 2000 and now with Hampshire Constabulary. I was the school liaison officer for this area until the role was dissolved about 3 years ago. I now work alongside and provide support for new police officers.

I am very proud to be a parent governor and look forward to contributing to the schools future.

Jo Hulme

I became a Governor at Newlands early in 2010 because as a retired Infant School Teacher I felt that I had experience to offer in this role for the benefit of the children and for the future of the school. I taught in another local infant school for over twenty years. I also carried out supply teaching in local schools which included Newlands.

My children were educated in Yateley schools and now have children of their own. My husband and I enjoy spending time with them and my other hobbies include playing golf, walking and reading.

Andy King

Jo Wilson

I have been a member of staff at Newlands primary school over 10 years and have had experience in teaching in all years throughout the school.

For the past two years I have been responsible for reception class and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of teaching through a different approach.

I took on the role of staff governor to give me a different insight to school life and the responsibilities and challenges that the governors face.

Andrew Fowler

My name is Andy Fowler and I am a parent governor.  I have lived in Yateley most of my life, with a brief break for studying at University, where I met my wife, who is a teacher.

We have 2 children who both attend Newlands.  Ollie is currently in year 2 and Bethan in reception.

I enjoy being a governor as it gives me the chance to be involved in the school and the education of the children, as well as hopefully being able to use my skills to benefit the school.

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family, going for walks and play football at the park with Ollie.
